The next Bougainville Foundation Day celebrations are set for Monday, June 17, 2024, and are being announced with pleasure by the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG).
Commemorating the 19th anniversary of the ABG’s founding on June 15, 2005, festivities will take place in the municipalities of Buka, Arawa, and Buin.
A gazetted public holiday, Bougainville Foundation Day honors this momentous occasion in Bougainville’s political history.
The festivities this year are centered around the theme, “Embracing our past, celebrate the present, and move forward for independence,” which encourages us to take stock of our momentous journey, acknowledge our difficulties, celebrate our successes to date, and look forward to a prosperous and independent future.
The day’s events will be anchored by ABG Acting President Hon. Robin Wilson in Buka. For Bougainville to be a widely celebrated event, other ABG leaders will represent the government in Arawa and Buin.
