The Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) has expressed support for the National Government’s announcement regarding the resumption of road maintenance and construction in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. The road upgrades will target three sections of the Kokopau to Kangu highway. RAIBRO has been contracted for the first section in the Selau area, DEKENAI will handle the stretch from Tavatava to Awi in the Koromira Constituency, and COVEC will manage the section from Loubai to Tabago in the Konnou Constituency. Additionally, the package includes the completion of the Buka ring road in North Bougainville. These projects are part of the National Government’s Connect PNG program, with funding already allocated for the work to proceed.
Prime Minister James Marape, speaking in Arawa last week, urged the contractors to resume their work. He announced, “We have allocated K9 million each from the Department of Works for the three contractors here, covering the Buka ring road and the road from Kokopau all the way to Buin.”
Prime Minister Marape also mentioned that the National Minister for Works will visit Bougainville this week to meet with the ABG Minister for Technical Services to further discuss the projects.
