First Vehicle Reaches Honda-Waripa Village After 45 Years

Residents of Honda-Waripa in the Mendi-Munihu district, Southern Highlands Province, experienced a historic moment as a vehicle entered their village for the first time. This marked the end of 45 years of isolation due to the lack of road access. The community has faced significant hardships, including long walks to the nearest main road for essential services.

Mendi-Munihu MP Raphael Tonpi, in collaboration with the District Development Authority (DDA), provincial government, and the National Government through the National Works Public Investment Program, secured funding to build roads and bridges to connect this remote area. Nelson Mais, the DDA electoral officer, highlighted the transformative impact of improved road infrastructure on transportation and economic growth. He emphasized that better roads facilitate access to education, healthcare, and exposure to the broader world.

The project was executed by ShirShar Construction Limited, which overcame challenging geography to complete the road. The people of Honda-Waripa expressed deep gratitude to Mr. Tonpi for his efforts in bringing development and recognition to their community, ultimately enhancing their quality of life and economic prospects.
